Alzheimer's - Finding the Right Treatment Plan

Signs of the last 8 years, my family and my mother who is 86 now dealing with the symptoms of Alzheimer's. Initially, his forgetfulness and identify not just with someone we thought, you know he is getting old, it being the right does not entitle every now and then, heaven knows we ourselves time Time to forget. But the frequency of these signs started occurring on a regular basis. My mother started a geriatric psychiatrist at the National Highway where he was taken to stay. Dr A drug called Aricept, one you see on TV commercials most of the time prescribed. Its popularity with the drug seemed promising, but trying the drug a couple of years later, there are no significant signs of improvement were. He also favors the drug ie dizziness, upset stomach, vomiting, trouble many of the effects associated with eating and sleeping disorders encountered.

In 2005, my mother's hard on her right knee, knee replacement surgery is needed. Operation was successful, however, my mother was a drastic change in memory and behavior. My mother to hide her purse and wallet, thinking everyone wanted to steal it. He never could remember where it was hidden and it will take family members to blame. In addition to stealing and hiding, he was so mad. He designed all the window shades and closed the door late in the afternoon everyday needs. He has displayed increased levels of anxiety and agitation. He got up and check windows and locks him to repeat himself from the chair and everyone will be asking if the doors were closed down. Just in general, he was up and down for any period of time and still never will be. He was ever ready bunny way, ie he was going and going. I was just tired of watching him and I'm 35 years younger. He was always physically active, walking and exercising. Take good care of himself right food, baked or broiled chicken and fish and lots of vegetables taken. He took vitamin supplements Religious her homemade bran up every morning with a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with half a glass of orange juice mixed together sorting and half, yogurt and a cup of coffee.

My mother had to make an old-fashioned, doing everything from scratch. His nickname Betty, aka Betty Crocker, was making sure that there are three balanced meals with desserts made daily. These foods were not your simple toast and coffee. I bacon and eggs, homemade blueberry muffins, pancakes, homemade oatmeal, percolated coffee, roasted homemade soup, homemade cookies, the homemade spaghetti sauce and spaghetti with bread salad, with more For dinner the first night eating lunch meat sandwiches'm talking about desserts, like apple or blueberry pie with ice cream. For the holidays, it is the main meal itself out of the house all the items along with several cakes, pies, breads, cookies, fudge, and other various desserts were made. He made enough food for an army, our family, friends and neighbors feed. If you can believe it, we all pencil thin, to make sure were the good old days. The Alzheimer's hit cooking exercise until my mother was a regular routine for over 60 years. At that time, he had difficulty remembering to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Regular routine part of my mother as she is clean, neat and clean, ammonia, Clorox, Pinesol, Lysol, Windex and Pledge use. Your loved one using any of these products? I sometimes wonder if there are these products or a combination thereof and a link with Alzheimer's. Or bleached all the desserts we ate there a relationship with sugar is used? Or Crisco and butter?

Go back for surgery a few years after surgery, I learned that heavy, being unconscious under anesthesia, ie more rapid progression to Alzheimer's can cause. In more recent years I had heard that the surgery an Alzheimer's patient, whether or not a spinal block or if there is enough different levels of anesthesia, perhaps at a lower dose may be required to inquire. In 2008 my mother needs a second knee replacement. The surgery almost an uncontrollable state with advanced Alzheimer's full hallucinations and delusions, screaming fits on. After the surgery my mother was in hospital he or she had been through surgery that did not believe. With all the cables and monitors, she thought someone had pulled him aside and are building the house. He shouted that he was going to sue for wrecking their home. She yanked out her IV catheter in his next try. While in hospital, 24 / 7 nurse was required to see the bed. I believe that her pain medication OxyContin uncontrollable behavior attributed to him crazy. We never saw him in the mental state. In my mind it was not for the drug. Being released from the hospital and a nursing rehabilitation center, after some of his senses but not all of the control. Lorazepam as a physician in rehabilitation facilities and sedating drug Seroquel introduced. The surgery seemed miraculous his downtime. He was able to walk almost immediately with no pain. I believe that Alzheimer's in charge of pain, no brain, no pain, that part of the brain is numb. My mother Lorazepam, 0.5 mg and Seroquel, 25-30 mg doses continued to reduce. These medications calm his agitation and anxiety symptoms in the late afternoon and early evening were used. Since the symptoms of Alzheimer's symptoms for sundowning as we got to go. Going from dark to light movement causes the brain to trigger a response.

For next year, my mother has strong legs, but her mind and behavior declined. Decline can be attributed to inadequate social interaction. I was told that Alzheimer's patients and medical social interaction is very rewarding, adult daycare centers specializing in Alzheimer's is a good opportunity to pursue. Daycares find that physical exercise, mind games, eye, hand coordination activities include programs such as arts and crafts. Love you to ensure that the facility has some type of security or the band walking away and one should be confused.

My mother, on the other hand, the same was seen by family members is limited and visitors welcomed. In March 2009, my younger brother and I combined my mother's health at the time, I became responsible for it brought to the CA. I was keen to have him here because I felt that many other states beyond California's medical care. My belief is based on our elderly population. We have more than our size because of the weather and the state's population. CA also the highest number of doctors in any state is due to size. I am surrounded by many retirement communities.

A significant event that occurred while our flight from Boston to Los Angles, through the half-way air travel, my mom flipped out. What I mean, the screaming started swearing, kicking, hitting and pulling my hair. He got out of his seat and started aggressive charge to first class. He thought it was a job he held was more than twenty years ago. He wanted to talk to the owner because he did not know where all the products that they had gone. 4 flight attendants and paging with the aid of a physician, my mother was brought back to his seat but will not sit down, and he went down on her and calm her down the aisle. My mother took off for the remainder when we started near Los Angeles, he did not sit down for a landing. Doctor, a geriatric psychiatrist helped him seat we sit diagonally. We both held him down for a landing. For flight attendants were going to use a straight jacket. I was so scared or never embarrassed. I thought my mom sleep off completely since I would choose a direct evening flight.

And finally returning home after this episode and just, I look for programs available to people with Alzheimer's had researched. I do good for our local Senior Adult Daycare Center had the privilege to talk to the director of a program. Women I with my name and telephone number of medical resources to provide evaluation contact my mother spoke. Before this time, no one really have to evaluate him medically. My mother went to the doctor every several months, and family members talked about his condition, but no actual tested. Appointment time for the past year would be maybe 15 minutes every 6 months tops. No one ever explained anything to us or what direction we should go. Alzheimer's had no map. Now, the next set of events was most valuable in a matter of a few months to find a successful treatment plan sped.

1. My mother is a neurologist who ordered an MRI, blood work, and a genetic test called apolipoprotein E genotype performance to be gone. There is a genetic marker that is prevalent in most people with Alzheimer's, all patients could be but I can not remember exactly. If you are tested for this marker, and this does not mean you have Alzheimer's, if I understand correctly doctor details, double check if you have it. If you have a parent with Alzheimer's, then you have a 50/50 chance of getting Alzheimer's too.

2. Internal Medicine Doctor Neurologist a comprehensive memory test was performed. The Folstein Mini Mental Test test more intensive and what is said was longer than. Folstein test for a good home and tried as a doctor's follow-up assessment test. I found the link below the Folstein test was a good example.
